SPOTIFY February 18 2009

Spotify is a new piece of software available for mac and PC and is perfect for this “day and age”. Developed in Sweden in 2006 by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon Spotify allows you to stream music with virtually no buffer time at all. It has only recently been released for every one in the uk just 8 days ago. You set up your account download the spotify software log in and start browsing and creating playlists this information is then available on any computer with the spotify software installed on it.

Spotify is a free piece of software and is only interrupted by the occasional advert or banner ad. The software works even with a very slow internet connection with 256kb/s being the recommended minimum but at working perfectly with just 160kb/s. The reason the songs are so quick to play is that the are cached on your computer which stops the need to reload songs every time you listen to them. The only problem with keeping a cache on your computer is that you need to have at least 1GB of free space.

again there is a subscription as with Last.fm but this can be brought on a monthly basis for about £10.00 or for a 24 hour period ideal for a party for only £0.99 (Bargain). Spotify allows you to Scrobble tracks to Last.fm through your last.fm account. and create you own playlists, But my favorite feature is the queue feature which allows you to select the order you want to here tracks in which is a feature i’ve always wished iTunes; which is redundant on my computer now, had. You can also share your playlists on sites such as Spotylist.com where you can rate download and share playlists.
